Who Leads the Digital Audience in 2026?
TV3 remains Ghana's most-followed television station on X (formerly Twitter), but the race for digital influence is becoming increasingly competitive. While established broadcasters continue to dominate follower counts, several stations are recording impressive growth as they expand their online presence.

Social media has become one of the most important platforms for news distribution, audience engagement and brand visibility. For television stations, a strong presence on X allows them to break news faster, interact directly with viewers and extend their reach beyond traditional broadcasting.
An analysis of verified X accounts of ten major television brands in Ghana reveals how the country's broadcasters have grown their digital audiences between December 2024 and July 2026.
TV3 Maintains a Comfortable Lead
With 2.9 million followers, TV3 continues to hold the largest audience among Ghanaian television stations on X. The station increased its follower base from 2.6 million, representing a healthy 12.5% growth over the period.
Its sustained leadership reflects years of investment in news, entertainment, sports and digital-first content that resonates with audiences across Ghana and beyond.
GHOne Holds Second Place
GHOne remains the second most-followed television station with 1.8 million followers, up from 1.7 million in December 2024.
Although its 4.8% growth is among the lowest in the ranking, the station maintains a significant digital footprint and continues to attract a large online audience.
Joy News and UTV Are Neck and Neck
One of the most interesting developments is the convergence between Joy News and UTV.
Both stations now boast approximately 1.5 million followers.
Joy News grew from 1.3 million to 1.5 million, representing 14.9% growth, while UTV increased by 14.1% over the same period.
The near tie highlights the increasingly competitive landscape among Ghana's leading broadcasters.
Smaller Stations Are Growing Faster
Although larger broadcasters dominate overall follower numbers, several smaller stations are expanding at a much faster pace.
Among the fastest-growing accounts are:
Joy Prime: 25.8%
Onua TV: 23.3%
GTV: 22.1%
These figures suggest that newer or more specialised brands still have considerable room for audience expansion.
High percentage growth often reflects successful content strategies, stronger audience engagement and increasing brand awareness.
Channel One Continues Steady Growth
Channel One increased its audience from 420,000 to 436,900 followers, representing 4.0% growth.
While the percentage increase is modest, the station continues to strengthen its presence among Ghana's recognised news broadcasters.
Metro TV and DStv Ghana Record Moderate Gains
Metro TV expanded its audience by 12.6%, growing from 175,400 to 197,400 followers.
DStv Ghana also posted positive growth, increasing from 61,300 to 66,900 followers, representing 9.2% growth.
These gains demonstrate that even niche or subscription television brands continue to attract new digital audiences.
What the Numbers Reveal
The data highlights several important trends shaping Ghana's television industry.
First, established broadcasters continue to enjoy substantial advantages built over many years of brand recognition and audience trust.
Second, digital growth is increasingly driven by engagement rather than size alone. Several smaller stations are expanding their audiences much faster than the market leaders.
Third, X remains an important platform for television brands despite the emergence of newer social media platforms. News updates, live event coverage and audience interaction continue to make X a valuable channel for broadcasters.
Finally, follower count is only one measure of digital success. Engagement rates, content quality, video views and audience loyalty are equally important indicators of influence.
Digital Competition Is Intensifying
The competition among Ghana's television stations is no longer limited to ratings on traditional television. Every major broadcaster is now competing for attention across digital platforms where audiences consume news in real time.
Stations that consistently publish timely content, encourage conversations and invest in multimedia storytelling are likely to strengthen their online communities over the coming years.
While TV3 currently leads in total followers, the rapid growth recorded by Joy Prime, Onua TV and GTV shows that the digital race remains wide open.
As Ghana's media landscape continues to evolve, social media will remain a key battleground for audience attention, brand influence and long-term relevance.
