For Ghanaians in the UK sending money back home, remittance platforms aren’t just digital tools, they’re lifelines. But not all platforms give you equal value. In our latest edition of Ghana in Numbers, we analyzed the GHS equivalent one would receive for a standard £1,000 remittance on June 2, 2025, across 11 popular services.

Comparing Transfer Rates for Pound Remittance in Ghana

Key Findings:

  • Send App offers the best return: GHS 14,230

  • AfriEx follows closely at GHS 14,060

  • Wise, often known for transparency, surprisingly lags with GHS 13,590

  • The difference between the highest and lowest is GHS 640, equivalent to about £45+ in value

Why These Differences Matter:

Over time, consistently choosing better platforms could mean hundreds of cedis in extra value for recipients. For families relying on monthly transfers, that’s more food, school supplies, or utilities paid.

How Rates Are Determined:

Exchange rates vary based on:

  • Platform fees

  • Market spreads

  • Partnership terms with banks and MTOs. Some platforms use mid-market rates (e.g., Wise), while others adjust rates to accommodate zero-fee transfers.

Recommendations:

  • Compare Weekly: Rates change regularly, so check platforms weekly before sending.

  • Use Aggregators: Platforms like cedirates.com help users compare rates in real time.

  • Prioritize Speed + Value: If time isn't urgent, pick the higher-paying platform. But if instant delivery is needed, you may sacrifice a few GHS for speed.

Final Thoughts:

The remittance game in Ghana is evolving rapidly. With fintech innovation and diaspora needs rising, services that offer both value and speed will lead the market.
