When sending money to Ghana, most people focus on transfer fees. However, the exchange rate often has a much bigger impact on the amount the recipient actually receives.

A provider offering a slightly better exchange rate can deliver significantly more Ghana cedis than another provider charging lower fees but offering a weaker conversion rate. Over multiple transfers, these differences can add up to substantial amounts.
Our latest Cedi Board compares buying rates from eight major remittance providers across three of the most common currencies used for transfers to Ghana: the US dollar (USD), the British pound (GBP), and the euro (EUR). Rather than ranking providers based on a single currency, we compare each provider's average performance against the overall market average.
In this edition, UnityLink leads the rankings with an average rate 0.54% above the market benchmark. Wise follows closely at 0.52%, while LemFi and Taptap Send also outperform the market average. Sendwave and WorldRemit remain competitive, whereas Remitly falls slightly below the benchmark. Western Union records the lowest overall performance, primarily because of a significantly weaker USD buying rate.
Although percentage differences may appear small, they can translate into meaningful gains for recipients, especially when transferring large amounts or making regular monthly remittances.
Consumers should compare both transfer fees and exchange rates before sending money. Choosing the provider with the strongest overall value rather than the lowest fee alone can maximize the amount received in Ghana.
As exchange rates fluctuate throughout the day, it is also important to check current market conditions before initiating a transfer. Transparent comparisons like the Cedi Board help consumers make informed decisions based on real market data rather than marketing claims.
